Houghton and Hancock are at the center of the “Copper Country” & they are home to both Michigan Technological University and Finlandia University. The copper-rich Keweenaw Peninsula, juts 40 miles into Lake Superior from its southern shore. Although the copper mines are now silent, the natural elements including Lake Superior and countless inland lakes and streams, cool summer temperatures, and hay fever-free days make this area one of the nation’s overlooked gems. Yoopers are always ready to share their knowledge of local history and tourist attractions with visitors.

A portion of every stay at The Miner helps support local youth ice hockey programs.
